LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Folded Flag Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) organization committed to honoring America’s fallen heroes by providing their families with financial support for education, champions the month of May as Gold Star Awareness Month—a time to pay tribute to U.S. military and government personnel who have died as a result of combat operations, as well as the thousands of spouses and children who have been left behind.
With education as the cornerstone, The Folded Flag Foundation’s vision is a total embrace of family after loss. Not only does The Folded Flag Foundation assist families with their transition to civilian life through its Gold Star Family Scholarship Program, it also provides a pathway for both spouses and children (under the age of 26) to obtain an education and establish careers.
“America’s freedom comes at a great cost and we are proud to offer the needed financial support to cover those ever-growing educational costs,” said Kim Frank, President, The Folded Flag Foundation. “Not only do we celebrate the legacy of our fallen servicemen and women during Gold Star Awareness Month and Memorial Day, but we are also honored to help their loved ones pursue their educational dreams throughout the entire year.”
Educational scholarships are granted for the fall and spring academic semesters, in addition to those applicants seeking assistance for summer school and summer-related activities. The scholarship and grant opportunities offered by The Folded Flag Foundation include:
- Educational scholarships for Gold Star children in K-12 to cover the cost of private school tuition and fees, tutoring, after-school programs, summer camps and/or other related educational expenses.
- Educational scholarships for Gold Star spouses and/or children (under the age of 26) to cover the cost of college, trade school or graduate school, including the cost of tuition and fees, books, computers, living expenses, tutoring, test preparation service and/or career preparation expenses.
The Folded Flag Foundation was formed in 2014 by Bill Foley, renowned businessman and owner of the Vegas Golden Knights, to supplement the current death benefits paid to families of fallen service members. The Folded Flag Foundation has awarded 1,215 scholarships valued at more than $8 million since its inception.
