DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ICON Medical Network Holdings (ICON), a national locum tenens provider creating solutions for physician and advanced practice staffing, has acquired Independence Anesthesia Services (Independence), an anesthesia provider agency with over 17 years of experience representing locum tenens provider assignments. The strategic acquisition will help in meeting the needs of healthcare staffing across the nation.
“We are pleased to welcome Independence and Ed Long to our family, and are confident that this addition will only further increase ICON’s footprint across the nation in a specialty that is highly desired,” said Janet Elkin, president and chief executive officer at ICON.
According to The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, CRNAs are among the most utilized healthcare professionals in the country and were ranked in the top 20 of specialties that served the most beneficiaries in non-telehealth care at the height of the pandemic, from March 2020 to June 2020.
“As more outpatient and elective procedures are starting to take place again, the need for CRNAs to provide essential care in communities nationwide, especially medically underserved and rural, continues to grow,” said Elkin. “In partnership with Independence, we will be able to provide a solution that is beneficial for both patients and healthcare facilities.”
Independence is based in Athens, GA with over 17 years of experience specializing in staffing Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist CRNA across the country.
“We are excited to join Janet and her team and together work to develop innovative ways that reach even more providers while continuing to help our clients,” said Ed Long, president, Independence.
Ashley Simpson, chief development officer at ICON, will continue to grow her role through the acquisition. Simpson will ensure there is a two-way relationship where the ICON team will not only be able to join forces, but also learn from the Independence team and their wealth of industry knowledge.
“Integrating Independence’s expertise of CRNAs powers an expanded locum tenens portfolio, allowing ICON to serve a new area of care,” said Simpson. “I look forward to taking on the responsibilities that come along with acquiring an established provider as they will have a meaningful impact for providers that require the knowledge of CRNAs.”
Frank Williamson of Oaklyn Consulting served as an advisor to ICON and Independence was represented by Ed Manthey of WMA Healthcare Partners.
