Arthritis National Research Foundation Awards 18 New Research Grants

Following a year of global uncertainty, ANRF emerges on solid footing and provides new funding for research in multiple disease areas.

IRVINE, Calif.--()--The Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF) is proud to announce the awarding of 18 new research grants to scientists across the U.S. with bold new ideas for the treatment of arthritis and related autoimmune conditions.  Throughout the history of ANRF, the organization has focused on maintaining a strong financial base to allow for consistent funding of worthy research.  Despite the economic effects of the pandemic, the organization was able to fund significant research in both 2020 and now 2021. ANRF’s ability to fund this level of research following a year of widespread economic uncertainty is a testament to the community’s unwavering commitment to supporting promising medical research.

ANRF’s Scientific Advisory Board met in March of this year to review the grant submissions and select the most promising, meritorious research proposals. Ultimately, they selected 18 projects that could represent the future of diagnostics and treatments across the spectrum of autoimmune diseases. Ten grant recipients will be undertaking new research projects and eight second-year researchers will be extending their promising first-year work to the next level.

“I am incredibly impressed with the talented work that we have seen in proposals this year,” said ANRF CEO Emily Boyd Stormoen. “I have every expectation that the work we are funding will eventually lead to significant improvements in treatments for those living with arthritis and related autoimmune diseases.”

ANRF-funded research for 2021-2022 will focus on disease states that impact tens of millions of Americans. These include Rheumatoid Arthritis, Juvenile Arthritis, Spondylarthritis, Osteoarthritis, Lupus, Scleroderma, and infection-induced autoimmunity in COVID-19 patients.  A full list of awardees, research project details, and partnered institutions can be found on the ANRF website at curearthritis.org/arthritis-research-scientists-2021-2022.

While many non-profits have experienced difficult times during the COVID-19 pandemic, ANRF remains committed to its mission to fund life-changing research in diseases that impact the lives of a quarter of the U.S. population. This commitment is shared by our community of individual supporters and bolstered by new industry partnerships.
