Wealthsimple and Epilogue Partner to Help Parents Save for and Protect Their Children’s Education

Epilogue becomes first online Will platform to help parents protect RESP investments

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Epilogue, Canada’s first lawyer-founded online estate planning platform, is proud to announce its partnership with Wealthsimple, the company behind one of Canada’s leading digital investing and stock trading platforms. This partnership will help Canadians protect the money they’ve saved for their children’s education. With this announcement, Epilogue becomes the first online Will platform to give its customers the option to include their Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs) in their Wills.

RESPs have always been an important way for parents to invest in their children’s post-secondary education. Wealthsimple’s low-cost, online platform has made the process of opening and managing an RESP easier and more convenient than ever. But the benefits of saving through an RESP can be lost if the account-holder dies without a Will that authorizes someone else to take over the account.

“The best thing about investing in an RESP are the government grants you receive for contributing and saving towards your children's education. With Wealthsimple, you can apply for these grants online and set up an RESP account in minutes to start investing towards this important goal,” explains Sunmeet Hanspal from the Portfolio Management team at Wealthsimple. “When it comes to RESPs, it's vital that you protect this important investment, and that's where Epilogue comes in.”

Before the launch of Epilogue’s RESP feature, the only way to protect an RESP in a Will was to hire an estate planning lawyer. Unfortunately, many people cannot afford this option, leaving their RESPs unprotected. In partnership with Wealthsimple, Epilogue now offers parents a streamlined, affordable, and digital solution to not only invest in an RESP, but to protect it after they’re gone as well.

“Access to digital planning and investment solutions has never been more important,” says Daniel Goldgut, Co-Founder and CEO of Epilogue. “Our partnership with Wealthsimple is an important evolution in our offering as we strive to help Canadians protect all of their important investments in a cost-effective and convenient way.”
