SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PicnicHealth, the venture-backed startup giving patients unprecedented access to their medical records and the ability to contribute to scientific research, recently hired former Uber Engineering Leader Alex Bahouth as their VP of Engineering. Bahouth will report into Troy Astorino, co-founder and CTO, at PicnicHealth’s San Francisco Headquarters.
In his role as VP of Engineering, Bahouth will be responsible for driving the organizational and technical growth strategy as PicnicHealth scales. Bahouth brings over 15 years of engineering leadership. Upon joining Uber in 2014, Bahouth first bootstrapped, built, and rapidly-scaled Uber’s Data Infrastructure, Data Platform, Data Warehouse and Data Engineering Teams. Next, Bahouth started the Rider Promotions and ultimately led the platform and product teams powering Rider Pricing experience and Fare calculation at the technical intersection of product and user experience, applied machine learning, and mapping and pricing data for Uber’s Riders and Drivers. In his most recent role at Uber, Bahouth worked alongside Uber’s top-level leadership as part of the Office of the CTO to help reform Uber’s Engineering Performance Management, resulting in more equitable development processes for 4,000 employees across Uber’s global workforce. Previous to Uber, Bahouth founded and built the data infrastructure team and data engineering team at One Kings Lane.
“We’ve grown a ton over the past year and will double or triple our engineering team each of the next several years as we invest in and push the frontier of machine learning in healthcare technology. Alex brings a track record of impressive results leading Uber’s data teams through insane growth,” said Astorino. “Along with his incredible energy and thoughtful approach to building a team, he’s the perfect person to help PicnicHealth continue to scale quickly.”
The industry, product, and team were what led Bahouth to PicnicHealth. “I’m excited to join a company where I’m creating an impact and accelerating both patient care and scientific research in the medical space. For too long, a lack of accessibility and commutability of data has held back common sense advancements, and PicnicHealth is fixing that,” said Bahouth. “With a smart, proven business model that’s good for patients and researchers, we’re poised to quickly increase our scope of impact.”
“Furthermore, being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am excited for the opportunity to serve as a visible LGBTQ+ leader and create space for career opportunities and progression in an environment that affirms you. We do our best work when we feel we can truly be ourselves and not spend time worrying about how we are being perceived or what we are saying in order to fit in. I want to create more equitable opportunities in the tech industry by being a resource and advocate for those that may hesitate and miss out because they don’t see a place for themselves at the table,” said Bahouth. “At PicnicHealth, I found a diverse leadership team where I can be myself and that values building a company that makes these opportunities more widely accessible.”
PicnicHealth plans to double headcount by the end of the year, and with Bahouth’s addition, the engineering team will be the biggest part of that growth. See open roles at PicnicCealth.com/careers.
