PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apollo Neuro, the first scientifically validated wearable that improves the body’s resilience to stress, is celebrating one year in its mission to empower people to take charge of their mental health to live healthier, happier lives. Since launch, over 40 million minutes of use were logged across Apollo’s community of users to improve sleep, focus, relaxation, and more.
According to recent research of more than 1000 random respondents conducted by Apollo Neuro to understand how the general public feels coming out of 2020, 74% of respondents say they have felt more stressed than usual and 56% have been sleeping poorly.
Chronic stress strains the whole body by over-activating the fight-or-flight response, making it physiologically harder to focus, sleep, relax, and exercise, which can lead to serious long-term health effects. In a world experiencing unprecedented levels of stress, Apollo Neuro has seen the demand for a safe, easy tool to combat stress take off, closing out their first year on the market with tens of thousands of users across the world. Apollo Neuro has proven especially helpful for those under chronic stress including parents, children, healthcare workers, and first-responders to combat burnout.
Apollo Neuro works by delivering gentle waves of vibration that signal safety to the brain, helping your body feel safe and in control. The device is controlled by the Apollo Neuro mobile app, where the user can choose from goal-based modes to help transition throughout the day. Since launching in early 2020, Apollo Neuro’s three most popular modes were Sleep and Renew, Clear and Focused, and Relax and Unwind. Apollo can be worn on the wrist or ankle anywhere, anytime as an unobtrusive, drug-free stress reliever.
“When we launched Apollo Neuro in January 2020, we could have never anticipated the impact that we’d see in such a short period of time,” said co-founder Dr. Dave Rabin, MD, PhD. “What started out as a way to help improve how a body reacts to stress, quickly turned into a priority as COVID-19 accelerated the need for a product to combat heightened stress levels during the pandemic and beyond.”
Apollo Neuro’s recent survey uncovered details around how Americans have faced stress, sleep and the pandemic more broadly, as well as offering insights into the appetite for solutions to combat these feelings. From a high level, the findings revealed:
- Sleeping proved difficult: 29.9% claim to depend on prescribed medicine or supplements to sleep (unsurprising given Apollo’s “sleep” mode was the most frequently used in the last year)
- Wearables are in demand: Over half of respondents (51.7%) were interested in wearing a gadget to help prevent the onset of a stressful moment; 49.5% to achieve a better night’s sleep
- Parents need help too: 31.3% of parents noted an interest in a wearable device that would improve their child’s focus and sleep
Apollo Neuroscience, a company born from research at the University of Pittsburgh, has successfully completed six clinical trials and has nine underway at top medical programs across the country looking at Apollo’s impact on specific conditions that are triggered and worsened by stress. Across studies, results have consistently shown Apollo to improve Heart Rate Variability (HRV), a key metric of health and stress recovery, as well as improvements in focus, cognitive and physical performance, meditation, sleep, and more.
