The Fuji GFX 100S revolves around the 102MP 44 x 33mm BSI CMOS sensor and X-Processor 4 image processor, which achieve truly impressive high-resolution results with fine clarity, color accuracy, and wide sensitivity to an expanded ISO102400. The processor also enables quick shooting speeds, up to 5 fps at 102MP, along with apt video recording capabilities. DCI and UHD 4K recording are supported up to 30p with 10-bit F-log or 12-bit ProRes RAW output available. Also making use of the immense resolution and an updated in-body image stabilization mechanism, a Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode can make in-camera 400MP composited images. The IBIS system helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper results when shooting handheld. Additionally contributing to sharp imagery is the advanced hybrid AF system that employs phase-detection points across the entire frame for quick and accurate focusing performance down to -5.5 EV, as well as apt Face and Eye-Detection AF and intelligent subject tracking.
Converse to the high resolution of the sensor is the appreciably compact form factor of the body that, despite being highly portable, still touts a durable magnesium-alloy build that is weather sealed and freeze resistant. The body’s design incorporates a fixed 3.69m-dot OLED EVF and a three-way tilting 2.36m-dot touchscreen LCD. A smaller LCD is featured on the top plate, too, along with an intuitive mode dial and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi permit seamless wireless connectivity.
Announced alongside the GFX 100S is the equally remarkable GF 80mm f/1.7 R WR lens, which is the fastest AF lens for medium format systems currently available. A short portrait-length prime with a bright maximum aperture, this lens will excel in low-light conditions and will also offer great control over depth of field for isolating subjects using shallow depth of field. Optically, it features one aspherical element and a pair of low dispersion glass elements, which reduce color fringing and other aberrations for high clarity, sharpness, and accurate rendering. The lens is weather sealed, too, and manages to be relatively compact and lightweight—1.75 lb and 3.7 x 3.9"—for all-day shooting sessions either in the studio or on location.
