Excella Awarded $9.8M Contract to Support HHS OIG

Excella to Continue Modernizing Grants Analytics Portal Aimed at Combatting Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Across HHS Discretionary Programs

ARLINGTON, Va.--()--Excella, a pioneer in Agile technology solutions, announced a five-year contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General (HHS OIG). Through the contract, Excella will build-out the Grants Analytics Portal (GAP) to expand HHS OIG’s ability to monitor Medicare, Medicaid, and more than 100 of the agency’s discretionary programs. Excella will also focus on ensuring all OIG programs operate effectively while also identifying fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA).

"In the last year alone, the government spent over $1 trillion on programs aimed at improving the health and well-being of Americans," said Burton White, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Excella. "As the largest grant-making agency in the United States, HHS OIG has a huge task to ensure funds are appropriately allocated and identify grant fraud. We’re excited to help them meet that challenge and hope this program also opens the door for other agencies to use these solutions to combat fraud, waste and abuse."

This contract is an instrumental support vehicle for the HHS OIG’s 1600 employees in their strategic approach to providing objective oversight to promote the economy, efficiency, effectiveness, and integrity of all its programs while also ensuring the health and welfare of the people they serve.

“Using an agile and human-centered design, we have been able to create and continue to build out the data visualization platform for investigators that allows them to detect vulnerabilities more easily, assign risk scores, and help to identify bad actors efficiently," said Jimmy Benani, Director of Federal Civilian and Health, Excella. “We are committed to OIG’s federal health mission and using data science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence to build solutions that advance and modernize grant fraud investigation operations across the government ecosystem.”

Excella’s data science capabilities will also be supported by Elder Research Inc. (ERI).
