Ariul Fish Sees Increase in Revenue From Half-dry Fish Products Thanks to Popularity of HMR in Korea

SEOUL, South Korea--()--Ariul Fish LLC, a fish product provider based in Korea, announced that it gained KRW 2.5 billion in revenue from half-dry fish products during the past 11 months this year, an increase of 40% over the revenue of KRW 1.8 billion in the same period of last year.

A larger variety of half-dry fish products significantly contributed to increasing the sales revenue this year as Ariul Fish supplied over 20 different fishes, including croaker, flatfish, rockfish, snapper and codfish. The popularity of half-dry fishes among young people also led the increase in revenue. In addition, the increase in sales of half-dry fishes is partly related to the growing number of single-person households and dual-income couples who drive the expansion of the Home Meal Replacement (HMR) market.

Among its half-dry fish products, Ariul Fish supplies the largest volume of tongue soles. As it is thin and flat, the tongue sole is easy to dry and, traditionally, a variety of recipes for cooking the half-dry or dry fish have been developed. Half-dry fishes offer advantages of lower price and a narrower range of price fluctuation compared to fresh fishes.

“While the price of fresh fishes soars along with an increase in demand for marine products in global market, demand for half-dry fishes is expected to grow,” said Geum-ok Park, President of Ariul Fish.

Moisture in Half-dry fishes is removed by wind or a high-temperature drying machine after removing innards. As they contain less moisture, half-dry fishes are free from burning and take a shorter time in cooking.

In 2012, Ariul Fish registered ‘Love Sea-Gold Tongue Sole’ as a trademark with the Korean Intellectual Property Office. Having obtained the HACCP certification and selected as a Clean Factory by Korea Gov., the company is assuredly focusing on quality management.

As the market for HMR grows, Ariul Fish is aggressively marketing half-dry ‘Gold Tongue Soles’ by increasing distributors.
