REDLANDS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, today announced that Newmont Corporation, a Colorado-based gold mining company, will use Site Scan for ArcGIS to supply drone workflow tools under its Global Drone Operating Model. With Site Scan for ArcGIS, Newmont will have a standardized, cloud-based platform to scale the company's drone operations, which span surface and underground facilities across seven countries. Newmont will use Site Scan for ArcGIS alongside ArcGIS Pro for monitoring and analysis, reclamation reporting, and improvement of health and safety initiatives.
Due to the frequently remote locations, monitoring mines and associated infrastructure by traditional methods can be time-consuming and costly, requiring an extensive workforce and posing a safety risk. Site Scan for ArcGIS enables improved decision-making and delivers value for Newmont in monitoring, surveying, and mapping these environments. Further, Site Scan for ArcGIS can be used to investigate topography and slope stability at Newmont's mine sites for improved safety as well as to audit mine inventory and area changes. Newmont has been using Site Scan for ArcGIS at its Boddington, Australia, site for several years, and in October 2020 the company initiated use of the solution at the Peñasquito Mine in Zacatecas, Mexico.
"Drones are an increasingly important enabler to safe and efficient operations," said Mike Wundenberg, vice president of Operating Technology and Business Improvement for Newmont. "Taking a common and consistent approach to how we apply them to capture quality data and then turn that into actionable insight makes a lot of business sense. Partnering with Esri to rapidly deploy Site Scan for ArcGIS across our operations and help further develop the system with our users is an exciting step on our digital journey."
Because Newmont has standardized procedures based on the use of Site Scan for ArcGIS under the Global Drone Operating Model, all drone operations at Newmont will generate the same high-quality 2D and 3D mapping and analytics products from the company's drone imagery. Newmont will also be able to publish and share this data to ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise, making it available across the organization. Previously, operations were not standardized on any one drone management software solution, so the company did not always realize full value from its drone fleets and data.
"Site Scan for ArcGIS provides a best-in-class drone operations solution for customers at scale," said Richard Cooke, director of imagery and remote sensing at Esri. "We are honored and excited to be chosen by Newmont as its partner for implementing its Global Drone Operating Model. Esri's end-to-end solution will allow Newmont's operators to manage their drone fleet, facilitate decision-making across the mining life cycle, and drive efficiency in their operations."
