GoFundMe Hires Payments Executive Juan Benitez as President

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GoFundMe, the world’s leading fundraising platform, announced today that Juan Benitez has joined the company as President, effective December 1, 2020. In this role, Benitez will further develop and scale the payments, engineering, product, and partnerships functions at GoFundMe. He will join the company’s executive team and report to CEO Tim Cadogan.

Benitez brings over two decades of expertise and operational excellence combined with a personal passion for philanthropy to GoFundMe. Before joining the company, Benitez was the General Manager of Braintree and a key leader responsible for growing the company from a small start-up to a global payments platform. Prior to Braintree, he spent nine years in various capacities at Yahoo!, including VP of Engineering in Yahoo!’s Advertising Products Group and VP of Search Advertising. Benitez holds a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

“Juan is a brilliant, experienced, and thoughtful leader whose business and technical acumen has impacted some of the world’s most transformative technology companies,” said Tim Cadogan, CEO of GoFundMe. “His rare mix of skills and experiences coupled with his strong sense of empathy will be invaluable as we work to enhance the current fundraising experience, build new products, and connect people worldwide to the help they seek.”

“This year, I’ve recognized how coming together to support one another is more important than ever,” said Juan Benitez, President of GoFundMe. “GoFundMe provides a unique opportunity for me to combine my professional experience with my interest in leveraging technology for good. I'm absolutely delighted to join a world-class team driven by the desire to help others and expand the possibilities for giving as GoFundMe enters a new chapter.”

Benitez joins GoFundMe at a pivotal moment for the company, which has seen an outpouring of support for people, causes, and organizations in need throughout the course of 2020. In September, GoFundMe revealed over $625 million was raised in a six-month period on the platform for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
