Insurer Offers Communicable Disease Coverage for Nonprofits

Nonprofits Insurance Alliance (NIA) Bucks Prevailing Trend in P&C Insurance Market to Protect 501(c)(3) Organizations

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.--()--Nonprofits Insurance Alliance (NIA), the leading property and casualty (P&C) carrier exclusively serving 501(c)(3) organizations, announced today new coverage for nonprofits: NONPROFITS OWN® Communicable Disease Liability Insurance. Beginning January 2021, NIA members can purchase a sublimited amount of coverage to protect their organizations from liability claims arising from communicable disease.

“In uncertain times, NIA remains steadfast in our commitment to 501(c)(3) nonprofits,” said Brian Johnson, Chief Underwriting Officer of NIA. “While the insurance marketplace is shifting, we will continue to offer solutions that protect both nonprofits and the ability of nonprofits’ own insurer to sustainably protect 501(c)(3) organizations for years to come.”

NIA is consistently recognized for setting new standards in providing insurance for nonprofits through innovative coverages, such as Improper Sexual Conduct and Physical Abuse Liability (ISCPA) as well as flat fee D&O, which significantly increased the number of nonprofits who can afford insurance for their boards. With today’s announcement, NIA is yet again developing ground-breaking coverage to protect nonprofits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For over 30 years, NIA offered communicable disease coverage for a vast majority of its members, all of whom are 501(c)(3) nonprofits. But because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the coverage reinsurers will support has changed. In response to P&C insurance industry restricting coverage, NIA conducted a comprehensive review of alternative ways to cover nonprofits. The new coverage option announced today enables NIA, nonprofits’ own insurer, to continue to protect the critical services that 501(c)(3) nonprofits provide to their communities. For an additional charge NIA offers Communicable Disease Coverage that provides $250,000 of limit (loss and defense cost) in the Commercial General Liability policy form. Appointed brokers can learn more by contacting their NIA underwriter.

NIA has a well-established track record for financial strength. All insurers under the NIA group brand are rated A VIII (Excellent) by AM Best. With stable prices and coverages specialized for its nonprofit members, NIA consistently achieves an average renewal rate of over 90%.
