TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With the challenges of infectious diseases like COVID-19 and the ever-present financial pressure to increase throughput, it’s more important than ever before to scan faster. To address these challenges, Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc. will be showcasing the next evolution of Compressed SPEEDER technology: Compressed SPEEDER for 3D sequences (pending 510(k) clearance), at the virtual RSNA 2020 annual meeting, Nov. 29 – Dec. 5.
With Compressed SPEEDER 3D technology for the Vantage Orian 1.5T MR system, clinicians can reduce scan times during 3D MR exams, such as surgical planning and orthopedic applications. Compressed SPEEDER boosts MRI scan times by reconstructing full resolution images from under-sampled data through iterative reconstruction. The innovative technique overcomes many of the limitations inherent to traditional parallel imaging and allows for even greater acceleration.
“In advanced MR imaging, shortening scan times is vastly important for both the patient and physician,” said Jonathan Furuyama, managing director, MR Business Unit, Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc. “By advancing from 2D to 3D, healthcare providers can continue providing a quick and comfortable exam experience for their patients while clinicians have the most advanced techniques at their fingertips.”
Faster exams translate to increased clinical confidence and patient satisfaction. In the time of COVID-19, they allow for the time necessary in between exams to clean or disinfect the scanner and accommodate an influx of procedures that have been delayed or postponed. More scans per day also enables clinicians to spend more time with patients, boosting patient satisfaction. In addition, faster scans enhance patient comfort, which in turn may enable higher quality images by mitigating patient movement caused by patient discomfort during long scans.
