TORONTO--()--Holiday Party Heroes is a new initiative launched today by CanadaHelps that asks businesses across Canada to donate the unused cost of their annual holiday parties to charity and be recognized as #HolidayPartyHeroes. Through CanadaHelps, the largest platform in Canada for donating and fundraising online, donations can be directed to one of Canada’s 86,000 registered charities or to one of 30 Cause Funds, which are a new, easy way for Canadians to support a group of charities working towards the same cause.

The Holiday Party Heroes initiative is part of CanadaHelps’ broader strategy to provide Canadians with innovative new ways to support charities given the current and ongoing economic and public health crises. As of May, 69% of charities report that revenue has decreased since the onset of the pandemic according to research conducted by Imagine Canada. The idea was inspired by the Xmas Party Heroes campaign in the UK, which raised almost £1,000,000 within a week of being launched. The concept is taking off globally, and spin off campaigns are starting to launch around the world. CanadaHelps is launching this initiative in Canada and is calling on businesses across the country to support charities in this creative way.

Sezzle, Rain43, IQ PARTNERS Inc, Preloved, and Document Direction are among the first businesses participating in this program and being recognized as #HolidayPartyHeroes.

“With businesses across Canada having to cancel their annual office holiday parties amid the pandemic, we are asking them to consider a different way to celebrate and perhaps even introduce new charitable giving traditions to celebrate the holidays,” said Marina Glogovac, President and CEO of CanadaHelps. “By donating the unused cost of their office party to charity, businesses and their staff can create significant community impact and become holiday party heroes for charities – many of which are facing fundraising shortfalls this year.”

To participate, businesses visit HolidayPartyHeroes.ca by CanadaHelps, make a donation to the charity or cause they would like to support, and register their donation. CanadaHelps will recognize the business as a Holiday Party Hero. To celebrate, #HolidayPartyHeroes can share the details of their donation with staff, customers, and partners – and on their social channels – and encourage others to participate.
