EVERETT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Compass Health announced it received a $1 million gift from the Sunderland Foundation in support of the Broadway Campus Redevelopment project, which will create a state-of-the-art regional center in downtown Everett to integrate behavioral healthcare, primary healthcare and permanent supportive housing services.

The gift, one of the largest in Compass Health’s 118-year history, marks significant support for the three-phase project that will directly address increasing regional needs for innovative mental health, substance use and housing services. Phase one is set to open in April 2021 with 82 new units of permanent supportive housing, helping relieve critical homelessness issues that have been exacerbated by health and economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sunderland Foundation was established by the former president of Ash Grove Cement company, Lester T. Sunderland in 1945. Today, the foundation’s mission is to improve quality of life through reinvesting in the communities where the Ash Grove Cement Company has historically operated, granting nonprofits financial capacity to undergo crucial construction projects for their communities.
The Broadway Campus Redevelopment project fulfills the Sunderland Foundation’s goal of addressing challenging healthcare needs. As a 75-year-old organization with a long history of success, the Sunderland Foundation board recognized the same will and fortitude embodied by Compass Health to champion positive outcomes. The Foundation’s board also noted their confidence in Compass Health’s ability to execute a project of this scale and complexity, voicing their support for the impact the completed campus will have the Everett community and underserved populations.

The second phase of the Broadway Campus Redevelopment project will include a facility for intensive behavioral health services to replace its 70-year-old Bailey Center building on Broadway Avenue. Phase three of the campus redevelopment, still in the early design stages, is projected to focus on integrating behavioral health services with a primary healthcare clinic and pharmacy, in addition to supporting other services.
