OLATHE, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Garmin® International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced the GPSMAP® 66sr and GPSMAP 65 Series handheld devices—the latest additions to its popular lineup of premium outdoor navigation units. These rugged GPS handhelds are Garmin’s most accurate in positioning and tracking with multi-band technology and expanded global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) support, giving outdoor explorers optimal accuracy wherever their adventures lead, from steep country to urban canyons and dense forests.
“We are excited to grow our popular lineup of GPSMAP handhelds and introduce multiple GPS frequencies into the series,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “We’ve expanded our satellite support so you can explore with confidence, no matter where you go or what the conditions are.”
GPSMAP 66sr and GPSMAP 65 Series now supports multiband GNSS technology, making them Garmin’s first handhelds to receive and utilize multiple frequencies sent by navigation satellites, enabling improved user position accuracy, specifically in areas where GNSS signals are reflected, weak or typically do not penetrate. Customers using multi-band technology will have superior accuracy and confidence they are using state of the art technology, previously only available to the military.
GPSMAP 66sr
The GPSMAP 66sr features a large 3-inch sunlight-readable color display with access to satellite imagery that can be downloaded directly to the device for use off the grid. It comes preloaded with TopoActive maps with routable roads and trails, plus a federal public land boundary map overlay. The multi-band technology and expanded GNSS support with addition of L5 frequency (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, IRNSS) allows for reduced estimated position error, so the user has more improved accuracy and awareness of their surroundings. The GPSMAP 66sr is packed with ABC sensors, an altimeter for elevation data, barometer to monitor weather and a 3-axis electric compass. Stay aware and prepare for what’s ahead with real-time forecast information and live weather radar1 including clouds and precipitation data.
GPSMAP 65 Series
The GPSMAP 65 and 65s are built tough for any adventure with a 2.6-inch sunlight-readable color display. These handhelds offer multi-band technology and expanded GNSS support plus preloaded TopoActive U.S. and Canada maps with federal public land boundaries. The GPSMAP 65s builds on the base functionality of the GPSMAP 65 and includes ABC sensors (altimeter, barometer and compass). Built with a button operated design, the GPSMAP 65 and GPSMAP 65s are water-rated to IPX72 and have a battery life of 16 hours in GPS mode.
Compatible with the Garmin Explore™ app1, users of both the GPSMAP 66sr and 65 series can access additional tools and features for outdoor navigation, trip planning, mapping and data sharing. Before heading out for the next adventure, users can plan a trip on the app and download maps for off-grid viewing. Then, when out on the trails and away from a data connection, the Explore app will seamlessly sync with the device giving users access to view current location, plan and navigate routes, as well as set and manage waypoints. The GPSMAP 66sr is also compatible with the Garmin Connect™ and Connect IQ™ platforms, giving access to over 9 million trails through the preloaded Wikiloc app and automatically uploading geocaching finds to a user’s profile. Trek far and wide with the GPSMAP 66sr thanks to its internal Lithium-ion rechargeable battery that provides up to 36 hours of battery life in GPS mode and up to 450 hours in Expedition mode.
Available now, the GPSMAP 65, GPSMAP 65s and GPSMAP 66sr have suggested retail prices of $349.99, $399.99 and $499.99 respectively.
