JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--()--Southeastern Grocers, Inc. (SEG), parent company and home of BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, is expanding its commitment to customer safety during the pandemic by offering contactless prescription delivery. In partnership with ScriptDrop, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie customers can choose between three convenient delivery options: free curbside pickup, two-day shipping for $4.99 or same-day delivery, if within five miles of their local store, for $7.99. Customers can utilize any one of these options by simply contacting their local pharmacist to coordinate a delivery method of choice.

Gayle Shields, VP of Pharmacy and Grocery Non-Food Merchandising for Southeastern Grocers, said, “We are at a pivotal moment in the fight against COVID-19 and we all need to do our part to protect one another when possible. In an effort to give our customers a more accessible and safe way to pick up medication, Southeastern Grocers will begin to offer contactless prescription delivery at all Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket, and Winn-Dixie pharmacy locations. We hope this new option, combined with our collective effort as a community, will help us overcome this dangerous virus.”

In addition to contactless prescription delivery, Southeastern Grocers is implementing processes to better connect with customers and do its part to combat the ongoing opioid crisis by being a resource for prevention and emergency treatment. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, two out of every three drug-related overdose deaths involved an opioid, which resulted in 47,000 deaths in 2018 with 32% of those deaths involving prescription opioids.

SEG pharmacies will utilize a new software solution that allows its pharmacists to identify patients who may be at risk for an accidental opioid overdose. In partnership with Omnicell Population Health Solutions, a leading provider of patient engagement and communications technology solutions, Southeastern Grocers will implement the program, which features the ability to create tasks for pharmacists to proactively reach out to patients. Omnicell PHS’s Opioid Mitigation Solution assesses if the patient is actively taking their medications and determines if they are aware of the potential harmful side effects associated with opioid abuse.

In situations where emergency treatment is required due to suspected opioid overdose, Southeastern Grocers pharmacies now carry naloxone, a life-saving antidote, which can be provided without a prescription. Those who are prescribed opioids, take illicit opioids or caregivers who distribute opioids are encouraged to have naloxone on hand in case of accidental overdose.

SEG is also partnering with Safe Rx in an effort to prevent the misuse of prescription medication. Safe Rx offers locking pill bottles to help keep prescriptions secure. Safe Rx locking pill bottles are available at all Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie pharmacy locations.

Additionally, SEG is launching medication take-back kiosks in the greater Jacksonville area. Six Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie pharmacy locations will have medication receptacles providing Jacksonville residents with a safe place to dispose of prescription medications. Proper disposal of expired or surplus prescription medications is essential in preventing misuse and abuse within the home, as well as in preventing harm to the local environment.

Southeastern Grocers strives to be a valuable resource to the communities it serves and is proud to announce Winn-Dixie ranked third in the country for customer satisfaction for brick-and-mortar and mail-order pharmacies in J.D. Power’s 2020 “U.S. Pharmacy Study.” The rankings are based on responses from more than 13,000 pharmacy customers.

By continuing to adhere to local, state and federal guidelines, practicing social distancing and offering the highest level of service and care to its customers, Southeastern Grocers hopes to not only to keep its customers healthy and safe, but also encourages others to do the same.
