BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Spero Health, a national leader in providing care for individuals struggling with substance use disorders, announced today that it will open a new clinic in Elyria, Ohio. The new clinic will bring affordable, high quality addiction treatment services through a combination of telehealth and in-person visit options with Dr. Meagan Bower as the lead physician. Located at 1131 East Broad Street, it is slated to open on July 22nd . Spero Health, a CARF-accredited, community-based organization operates over 40 clinics located throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and Virginia, and provides care for more than 7,500 patients each month. Spero Health accepts Ohio Medicaid and most commercial insurance plans. Individuals who need addiction treatment services are encouraged to call: 216-270-7464 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
Elyria is one of several new clinics Spero Health is opening over the next few months in Ohio. When speaking about these new clinics Spero Health’s CEO, Steve Priest said, “The recent spread of COVID-19 has had a tremendous impact on our country, but those struggling with addiction are facing dire outcomes. There is a fear that the drug epidemic has been made worse through the pandemic due to the rise of unemployment, loss of social supports and other stressors which lead to higher numbers of drug and alcohol misuse which in turns leads to high numbers of overdose related deaths. We feel it is critical for communities to have access to life-saving addiction treatment options during this time, and we are working very hard to make that happen.”
According to a recent community assessment of Lorain County, it estimates that over 35,000 of its residents are misusing or abusing substances with fentanyl being mixed with other street drugs triggering overdoses and deaths. Speaking about this, Dr. Meagan Bower added, “As the drug epidemic evolves, it is important we have a local solution that will improve outcomes for those at risk. It is a matter of life and death, and our goal is to decrease the gaps that exist for individuals needing immediate access to high quality care and the Elyria clinic will be one way for that to happen.”
“Recovery is possible for everyone, but the right supports must be in place.” said Steve Priest, CEO of Spero Health. “While our public health system is battling the pandemic, we cannot afford to overlook the drug crises which has had a grave impact on our communities for years. It is critical that we are innovative in our approach to meet patients where they are especially now. One way we’ve done this is through virtual appointments which gives people the opportunity to keep close connections with their counselors and physicians’ on-line and over the phone when they can’t come to the clinic,” said Priest.
