ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Amerigroup Community Care of Georgia today announced that it is adding new value-added benefits to support families and children. These value-added benefits will provide our members and the communities we support with access to services that go beyond traditional medical benefits such as doctor’s appointments and medications. Through collaborations with local organizations, these benefits will address emotional support needs, food insecurity and other social determinants of health that can improve overall health and wellness.
The new benefits include Sam’s Club memberships at no cost for eligible moms over the age of 21, laptops for certain graduating high school seniors, payment of college application fees, work wardrobe kits and Lyft gift cards for eligible members. These new benefits become available July 1, and have been chosen to address the diverse needs that affect the lives of families with children.
“Amerigroup is deeply committed to improving the lives of Georgia’s families and communities and these value-added benefits are part of Amerigroup’s mission to improve lives and communities,” said Mel Lindsey, Amerigroup Georgia’s health plan president. “As a leader in coordinating Medicaid services across our State, we understand the needs of Georgia’s youth and families, including the extra support they need to support healthy living and academic success.”
These value added benefits are being offered in addition to the broad portfolio of benefits Amerigroup Georgia currently offers, such as free baby food, tutoring and SAT preparation assistance, dental cleanings, eye exams, weight management, pest control and more. Access to benefits is based on eligibility.
In addition to the value added benefits being offered to members, Amerigroup recently announced multiple initiatives designed to help the people of Georgia through the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of a nearly $2 million commitment, Amerigroup is supporting local communities and families by addressing emerging needs for food, basic human services, personal protective equipment and medical supplies, educational support and social and emotional wellness programs.
To support children living in foster care who have not been able to attend school due to COVID-19, Amerigroup launched a program to provide free laptops and three months of free internet access to children living in foster care. The initiative is enabling children living in foster care to continue e-learning and at-home education while adhering to social distancing measures.
