Kindred Healthcare Continues Expansion of Behavioral Health Services With Management of Illinois Behavioral Health Unit

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kindred Healthcare, LLC (“Kindred”) today announced it has begun managing Riverside Medical Center’s 64-bed behavioral health unit in Kankakee, Illinois.

Kindred recently reached an agreement with Riverside Healthcare to operate Riverside Medical Center’s behavioral medicine program, providing inpatient and outpatient care to adults, adolescents, pediatrics and geriatrics. The agreement builds on Kindred’s existing partnership with Riverside, through which Kindred Rehabilitation Services has managed an acute rehabilitation unit at Riverside Medical Center for eight years.

“We are pleased to expand our existing partnership with Riverside to serve more behavioral health patients in need,” said Rob Marsh, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Kindred Behavioral Health (“KBH”). “Kindred is a leader in treating medically complex and rehab-intensive patients, leveraging partnerships and innovation to enhance care. Through KBH, we are building upon our existing clinical and operational capabilities to address unmet need for behavioral health services for the benefit of patients and health systems across the United States.”

This management agreement continues Kindred’s expansion of KBH, which delivers high-quality, specialized and compassionate behavioral health services. KBH’s services include crisis stabilization for acute mental health and substance use disorders; detoxification from alcohol, opiates, cocaine and other drugs; suicidal thoughts or actions, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder; and many other behavioral health illnesses. Kindred recently announced a definitive agreement with WellBridge Healthcare to acquire two behavioral health hospitals, WellBridge Greater Dallas and WellBridge Fort Worth, in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
