FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif.--()--The current global pandemic has affected many people, with most now working from home and, at times, struggling to stay connected with family and friends. This sudden shift in daily lives has shown that gaming and technology can be a valuable medium to help keep mothers and children connected. The HyperX mantra – WE’RE ALL GAMERS – has never been truer as we approach Mother’s Day during social distancing. With kids and moms spending more time together than ever, many are turning to online gaming and entertainment to stay engaged, connected, and for some, well…sane. HyperX, the gaming division of Kingston Technology Company, Inc., turned to its community of incredible ambassadors to share positive stories and creative ways that they’re connecting with their moms while staying miles apart.

Professional NBA player and avid gamer Gordon Hayward shared his favorite photo with mom at age four along with some personal insight on how he is staying in touch with family through technology.

“It’s been tough not seeing my mom in person – but we’ve been keeping in touch with her (and my dad) over video chat,” said Hayward. “They have even recorded themselves reading a few different books, and we have shown them to the girls during story time before bed. They have really enjoyed that. I know it has been a tough time for a lot of people, but it’s cool to see how technology allows you to stay connected and stay in touch.”

Similar to Hayward, avid Twitch streamer and gaming personality Pokimane is using chat and video to stay in touch with mom this Mother’s Day.

“Since I live in Los Angeles and the rest of my family lives in Canada and Morocco, messenger apps have been essential for staying in touch,” said Pokimane. “My mom loves to get regular updates from me, so I make sure to send her lots of messages, pics of my cat, and to video call regularly. For Mother’s Day, I’m hoping to send her a small gift in the mail and spend loads of quality time over FaceTime.”

Gaming and technology apps are providing a unique medium for communicating and allowing people to find new and different ways to connect and interact with one another.

Gaming and Twitch streaming personality Fuslie is enjoying time with her mom through the world of online video conferencing and even introducing her to a little gaming fun highlighting, “I'm staying connected with my mom and my entire extended family through calls and Zoom calls! My mom has been sharing her exercise videos and favorite recipes with me. I am also trying to get her to play Animal Crossing, but she isn’t exactly good with technology so that has been a struggle!”

For families celebrating Mother’s Day from a distance, gaming streamer star Valkyrae, shares how technology helps her stay connected with mom while on different sides of the world. “Unfortunately, I’m unable to spend Mother’s Day with my mom because she’s in the Philippines during this time, but I'm extremely grateful to be able to have video calls with her and see her beautiful face.”

Whether gaming, texting, video chatting, or a combination of all, the latest technology enables people to connect, bond, compete or just hang out with family during this time of physical distancing.

“There is no denying that these are hard times and our hearts and thoughts go out to those affected, but we also wanted to share some of the ways that our HyperX family of ambassadors are turning to technology and gaming to have fun and engage with family remotely during quarantine time at home,” said Daniel Kelley, director of corporate marketing, HyperX. “From playing Fortnite with your mom to building new worlds in Minecraft with your friends and nightly Zoom calls with extended family and friends you can’t visit in person, technology and gaming are helping families learn, connect and bond in ways like never before.”

As parents balance working from home, remote learning and staying healthy, HyperX provides headsets and gear for family and friends to stay connected and productive online and is committed to bringing people together through online gaming and streaming during this special time for moms everywhere.
