Tuesday, May 5, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. car protest will take place at the office of notorious eviction attorney in Valley Village

As the devastating global pandemic rages on, housing justice and health care advocates will stage a car protest/advocacy action to defend against unscrupulous eviction lawyer Dennis Block who preys on tenants and tries to profit off the pandemic. Activists also urge the City Council to protect renters from unlawful evictions

LOS ANGELES--()--The coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the state’s housing affordability and homelessness crisis. With millions facing severe housing insecurity and devastating economic loss, advocates from Housing Is A Human Right (HHR), the housing advocacy division of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), will hold a socially-distant car protest to call out notorious eviction attorney Dennis Block. During the pandemic, he’s continued to push for evictions and created confusion and fear among tenants, all in an effort to make profits off the pandemic. Shame on Dennis Block.

A citywide shelter in place order and a statewide stay at home order issued by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and California Gov. Gavin Newsom to contain the spread of the coronavirus has left millions of Californians unable to work and facing housing insecurity like never before. Despite eviction moratoria put in place by state and local governments to protect vulnerable renters, Block has created confusion and promoted scare tactics to harass and prey on tenants, using the COVID-19 pandemic to making big profits for his law firm.

“Despite calls from city and state leaders encouraging us to all band together during the pandemic, notorious eviction attorney Dennis Block continues his divisive ways. During this global pandemic, with millions of Californians out of work, we need togetherness, not selfishness,” said Housing Is A Human Right Director René Christian Moya.

Housing is A Human Right activists previously warned of the audacious greed and vindictive exploits of Dennis Block in a piece published last October that highlighted how the notorious eviction attorney boasted to have “evicted more tenants than any other human being on the planet Earth.” The piece shows a pattern of abusive behavior that dates back to 2007.

Based in Los Angeles, Block proudly claims that he’s evicted than 200,000 tenants since 1976 — a staggering number that’s larger than the population of Pasadena.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the parent non-profit of Housing Is A Human Right and Healthy Housing Foundation, has long addressed public health emergencies -- from the AIDS epidemic to the Ebola crisis to California’s homeless crisis. AHF will do everything it can to help the vulnerable during this difficult time.
