ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--InHealth MD Alliance (“IMA”), a leading independent provider of high-quality primary care physician services, today announced that Dr. Mark Leenay has joined the organization as CEO, effective April 27, 2020. Dr. Leenay succeeds Dr. Nelson Pichardo, Founder and CEO of IMA, who will remain on the Board of Directors and, with his wife Patricia, will retain significant ownership in the company.
Headquartered in Orlando, IMA provides preventative care services, chronic disease management, and patient care coordination and case management. IMA has more than 60 physicians serving over 20,000 members under fully capitated risk-based contracts with leading national managed care organizations.
“We are delighted to continue the tradition of physician leadership at IMA by welcoming Dr. Leenay,” said Dr. Pichardo. “His depth and breadth of executive experience, in conjunction with the expertise of our physicians and entire organization, will support IMA’s mission of providing personalized medical care of the highest quality for all of our patients. Dr. Leenay is an ideal choice to lead IMA’s continued rapid growth through geographic expansion via de novo clinics, acquisitions of individual and group practices, and the recruitment of additional physicians.”
Dr. Leenay joins IMA from WellCare Health Plans, which earlier this year was acquired by Centene Corporation in a $17 billion transaction. In his role as Chief Medical Officer, Executive Vice President at WellCare, Dr. Leenay was responsible for clinical operations across all business lines for both physical and behavioral health. Prior to WellCare, Dr. Leenay served for six years in the U.S. and U.K. as a Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President at Optum, the health services platform of UnitedHealth Group. In his final two years with Optum International in London, Dr. Leenay oversaw all clinical programs, including EAP, wellness and complex medical conditions for Optum’s international business. He earlier served as the Chief Medical Officer, Senior Vice President of Medicare and Retirement at United HealthCare. Dr. Leenay earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Le Moyne College, a Master of Education in Educational Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and a Doctor of Medicine from Thomas Jefferson University.
“I am very pleased to join such a dynamic and visionary company,” said Dr. Leenay. “IMA has a well-earned reputation for providing high-quality care and integral medical attention to patients. Moving forward, we will look to further extend IMA’s advantage as a leading independent partner to national payers seeking organizations with high quality CMS Star and HEDIS ratings and industry-leading care management.”
