TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Northern Container Sales launches service across Canada, posts live shipping container prices by market at NorthernContainerSales.ca.
Toronto based Northern Container Sales, Inc. has digitized shipping container sales in Canada, offering used sea container sales online in every major Canadian intermodal hub (Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto, & Vancouver). Working with global container lines, Northern helps their customers buy containers from cargo circulation.
Most of the containers stacked up at depots are owned by foreign companies, and Northern works with those firms to sell off their end of useful life container assets. “We wanted to make the process of buying a used shipping container in Canada simpler,” said co-founder, and Toronto Native, Amy Thompson. “Normally a container would be purchased by a wholesaler, and then re-sold to a local retailer.” She added that "Northern works directly with the largest container companies in the world to cut out additional middlemen, and our customers are paying a wholesale mark-up above our costs.”
After more than a decade as the Toronto Branch Manager for Mobile Mini (NASDAQ: MINI), as well as a few years at their international headquarters in Phoenix, Thompson has launched Northern Container Sales to make it easier for people to buy a shipping container in Canada.
Northern partnered with US based technology firm Railbox Consulting, the company that built WesternContainerSales.com (among others). Railbox automated components of the shipping container buying and fulfillment process on NorthernContainerSales.ca to lower administrative overhead and keep operating costs low. Railbox CIO Derek Murashige, who has previously held software development roles at, Mobile Mini (NASDAQ: MINI), Boeing (NYSE: BA) and GoDaddy (NYSE: GDDY), was able to modify their existing platform to automate most of the ordering process. “Software is unconstrained by the artificial national boundaries of man,” Murashige said, “and we were able to modify existing infrastructure to facilitate Canadian customers with minimal modification.”
Railbox President, Mike Norton, added, “We’re extremely fortunate to be able to partner with a company that’s able to leverage our technology and resources to improve their customers’ shipping container buying experience.” The company said they were exploring similar partnerships in Europe, as well. “Derek and I both knew Amy from our time together at Mobile Mini, and we were excited to work with someone we know to be a professional.”
