TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HiRide Share Ltd (“HiRide”), the first-of-its-kind long-distance social carpooling app, is now on a mission to help young Canadians cope with social isolation through its new product extension, HiRide Social. HiRide was recently acquired by Facedrive Inc. (“Facedrive”) (TSXV: FD), the first Canadian peer-to-peer, eco-friendly and socially responsible ride-sharing network.
The central focus of HiRide Social is to drive young people to stay home amid COVID-19, while also encouraging people to build connections and combat loneliness. Inspired by Netflix’s “Love is Blind”, HiRide Social members are paired virtually with one another based on a set of individual preferences. Members are then put into a chatroom with an option of a virtual voice chat experience. Subject to mutual consent, members then activate phase 2 which includes options to continue voice chatting, change to video chatting, or end chat.
“In these unprecedented times, everyone on the planet is facing the impacts of COVID-19. It is becoming increasingly clear that businesses must adapt through these turbulent times. HiRide is no exception,” said Akshat Soni, CEO of HiRide.
“These are challenging circumstances for everyone, and we want to help connect more people from the comfort and safety of their home. Our company has always been about driving social interaction, and this is another opportunity to do just that,” added Soni.
HiRide Social marks the first big market milestone subsequent to its strategic acquisition by Toronto’s ridesharing company, Facedrive Inc. Environmental and social responsibility is in Facedrive’s DNA as the company plants trees and gives riders the option between electric, hybrid, and gas-powered vehicles. The acquisition comes amid the expansion of both companies into new cities globally, and will help deliver end-to-end service to its users, with Facedrive acting as the first and last mile for longer-distance commuters using the HiRide car-pooling app.
Driven by similar principles of social and environmental responsibility, both companies expect the longevity of this acquisition to propel both companies to new heights in regard to business development and strategic objectives.
