Toyota Tsusho Canada Invests in Velocia

Collaboration to accelerate Velocia’s mission to reduce traffic congestion in major North American cities and support Toyota Tsusho Canada’s focus on next generation mobility

TORONTO--()--Mobility-rewards platform Velocia welcomes Toyota Tsusho Canada Inc. (TTCI) as an investor in the development and expansion of Velocia’s mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) ecosystem and rewards programs. Velocia, a Techstars alumnus company, is a mobility app that rewards multimodal transit use in cities, incentivizing users to leave their cars at home and choose active and shared transportation options for their daily commutes.

This announcement comes on the heels of the Velocia mobility app’s recent global launch with Miami-Dade County in South Florida and marks Toyota Tsusho Canada’s first major MaaS investment in North America – the culmination of a 2 year collaborative effort that included TTCI supporting Velocia’s board of directors in an advisory capacity and resulted in TTCI’s investment in Velocia to help accelerate the expansion of their user base and municipal participants in other major urban areas in the US and Canada.

“Working with Velocia will allow us to be involved with some of the newest technologies and innovations in urban mobility at the ground level, and help further our understanding of the rapidly growing mobility-as-a-service industry in North America,” says Hidetoshi Tada, President of TTCI. From public transit to on-demand bike and e-scooter programs and peer-to- peer car sharing apps, Velocia’s mobility rewards platform includes a range of transportation service partners, providing a holistic perspective on how traditional car ownership is being disrupted and how people are moving around in cities.”

“We are looking forward to this next phase of collaboration with TTCI. TTCI’s deep knowledge and global connections in the transportation industry will provide us with augmented strategic guidance about the mobility market worldwide, furthering our development of innovative campaigns and partnerships to help solve complex traffic problems that are plaguing major cities,” says David Winterstein, CEO of Velocia.
