SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Zipwhip, the creators of Texting for Business™, and The Riveter, a modern-day union of working women and allies, have announced a joint scholarship program aimed at supporting young women in science, technology, engineering and math.
The Women in STEM Scholarship will help one female student further her education in a STEM field. The selected student will receive $1,500 from Zipwhip and a six-month Riveter Ally membership, which includes access to all workshops and programs sponsored by The Riveter and other public programs in their spaces, as well as an allotment of floating desk coworking hours per month.
Zipwhip believes that greater workforce diversity leads to stronger products, better financial performance and more connected employees. By investing in women in science, technology, engineering and math programs, Zipwhip aims to improve the candidate pipeline and help women pursue their passions for tech and innovation.
“In order for a company to be truly innovative it needs to have a culture where people can speak their mind openly and honestly, and where a diversity of ideas is brought forth,” said John Lauer, Zipwhip CEO. “That’s why we’re investing in increasing diversity in the tech industry and at Zipwhip. We know that the best products are built when people with different perspectives and backgrounds have a seat at the table.”
This joint scholarship was a natural choice for Zipwhip and The Riveter, as Zipwhip is a founding corporate partner of the coworking network. Zipwhip employees can access The Riveter’s coworking spaces, events and programming for free as a benefit provided by the company.
"The Riveter was founded to break down the barriers women face throughout their careers and to make certain all women have equity of opportunity in the workplace,” said Amy Nelson, CEO and founder of The Riveter. “This program will further that mission in a field that has been one of the worst for women historically yet has incredible potential to shift power and resources."
The Women in STEM Scholarship is open to women in any city or nearby community where The Riveter operates: Seattle; Bellevue, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Los Angeles; Austin, Texas; Dallas; Minneapolis and Denver. The winner will be announced on The Riveter and Zipwhip blogs on June 1, 2020 after the winner is contacted directly. Women in these cities enrolled in a technical undergraduate program at an accredited university or college, or enrolled in a technical bootcamp, are invited to apply before May 17, 2020, by visiting www.zipwhip.com/lp/scholarship.
