Swimlane CEO and Co-Founder Cody Cornell Named 2019 Tech Trailblazer CxO of the Year

Cornell’s leadership has driven Swimlane’s innovation and agility since the startup emerged in 2014, contributing to the greater technology community

DENVER--()--Swimlane, a leader in security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR), today announced that CEO and Co-Founder Cody Cornell has been recognized as the winner of the 2019 Tech Trailblazer award for the Male CxO of the Year category. Since he co-founded Swimlane in 2014, Cornell has played a critical role in the startup’s success. His passion for making the daily lives of security teams better drives the company’s pursuit of opportunities to maximize the value that customers receive from their investments in security operations.

After beginning his career in the U.S. Coast Guard, Cornell spent 15 years in IT and security, including roles with the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency, Department of Homeland Security, American Express and IBM Global Business Services. In 2011, he co-founded Phoenix Cyber, a cybersecurity professional services organization known for their ability to blend strategy and engineering with an organization’s business needs. Under Cornell’s leadership, over the past 12 months Swimlane closed a $23 million Series B funding round, announced integrations and partnerships with leading cyber security companies, launched the company’s Level-Up initiative, and most recently, released version 10.0 of the Swimlane SOAR platform.

“An important part of building a successful startup is finding people that love what they do, have diverse experiences, but a shared a passion for solving the problems that are core to Swimlane’s goals,” said Cornell. “Culture is not free snacks and ping-pong, it’s about wanting to roll up your sleeves with your coworkers and customers and really make a lasting and meaningful dent in improving the lives of security teams. I am grateful to even be nominated for the Tech Trailblazer awards, and appreciate the opportunity to be named alongside many other amazing and innovative tech leaders.”

Swimlane was founded in response to challenges faced firsthand by Cornell and co-founder Brian Kafenbaum while working as security analysts and engineers in the industry. As the only U.S.-based independent SOAR vendor on the market, Swimlane is automating incident response processes so that security operations teams can better manage the increasingly unmanageable number of alerts and manual tasks they handle each day. Swimlane’s SOAR platform enables a unified defense approach within the security operations center (SOC) by integrating with every organization’s unique security environment, supporting endless use cases, in a highly scalable and resilient architecture.

“There are leaders who demonstrate standard qualities and achievements, and then there are leaders – like Cody – who go above and beyond for their company and community,” added Swimlane President and COO, Jim Hansen. “Cody leads by example and is always looking out for his team, making it a priority to be accessible to all employees from the interns to the executives. This recognition is well deserved, and on behalf of everyone at Swimlane, we congratulate Cody and look forward to what he has in store for the company in 2020.”

In addition to this recognition from the 2019 Tech Trailblazer Awards, Swimlane was also named a finalist in the 2019 Black Unicorn Awards, as well as Cyber Defense Magazine’s 2019 InfoSec Awards for “Most Innovative” in SOAR, “Most Innovative” in enterprise security and “Next Gen” in Incident Response.
