UNC Health Care is now “UNC Health”

System introduces new name, new logo, new commitment to transformational change

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--()--UNC Health Care is now UNC Health. North Carolina’s largest academic healthcare system has launched a new brand identity to reflect a new focus, approach and commitment to transformational change as it seeks to improve North Carolinians’ health in the 21st century. Headquartered in Chapel Hill, UNC Health is comprised of 11 hospitals across 13 hospital campuses and hundreds of clinic locations from Hendersonville to Jacksonville.

The new UNC Health name and logo mark are symbolic of a commitment to the healthcare system’s transformation strategy. That strategy was developed to ensure our ability to care for the people of North Carolina as our customers adopt new technologies and expect a new kind of healthcare delivery. We strive not only to provide enhanced care within a changing payer environment, but to help our patients thrive by supporting their health goals in all stages of life. Healthcare is changing, and UNC Health must change along with it.

“UNC Health’s transformation strategy boldly defines our roadmap over the next five to 10 years,” explained UNC Health CEO Wesley Burks, MD. “One of the key changes that will position us well to achieve our strategic goals is a new operating model. This is our first major operating model change in decades, and provides us with a modernized and integrated approach to meeting our patients’ needs."

“In addition to our operating model, UNC Health will focus on an enhanced culture, capitalizing on elements of our existing culture that are strong and sustainable, and developing new elements that will provide us with the foundation of how we will work in the future,” Burks continued. “Everything we do culminates in UNC Health’s unchanged mission: ‘To improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians and others we serve.’”

Identity / Brand Refresh

“From a practical standpoint, the launch of UNC Health is an identify refresh, something the healthcare system hasn’t implemented in many years,” explained Chief Communications and Marketing Officer Lisa Schiller. “This refresh simplifies the system name and gives it a focused opportunity to ensure consistent, universal branding across the full organization.”

The introduction begins with the master brand; the organizational name, logo, visual system and messaging as we transform from UNC Health Care to UNC Health. This visual and messaging transformation will continue across the system and into UNC Health’s affiliates in the coming months.

“On a deeper level, the transition to UNC Health signifies our commitment to not simply treat patients for sickness, injury and other conditions,” Schiller said, “but to approach each patient with the goal of supporting their health goals during all phases of life.”

What Remains Unchanged

UNC Health will continue to nourish what has always made us an attractive employer and service provider, including:

  • Our mission “to improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina”
  • Our academic excellence, rooted in research, teaching, discovery, and innovation
  • Our commitment to clinical and service excellence
  • A focus on our people and supporting, developing and recognizing them

UNC Health is charting a new course for the organization, one that reflects our aspirations, values and the high expectations customers have in today’s healthcare marketplace. These changes will help the organization adopt business and medical practices that will help us become a more responsive, customer-focused, integrated healthcare system.

UNC Health and its 33,000 employees continue to serve as North Carolina’s healthcare system, caring for patients from all 100 counties and beyond our borders. We continue to leverage the world class research conducted in the UNC School of Medicine, translating that innovation to life-saving and life-changing therapies, procedures, and techniques for the patients who rely on us.
