SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Iteris, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITI), the global leader in applied informatics for transportation and agriculture, today announced that the City of Minneapolis has upgraded intersections across major corridors with its advanced video detection technology to support its Minneapolis 2040 plan, which aims to make the city safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.
Building on recent advances that saw the city deploy Iteris video detection technology for the one million plus people who visited Minneapolis during Super Bowl 52, this initiative will see Iteris’ Next® video detection systems of its Vantage® product family implemented at intersections to further improve multimodal mobility across the city.
To advance the city’s goals of improved and more equitable multimodal transportation, Vantage Next detection sensors are equipped with SmartCycle® and PedTrax® – Iteris’ advanced bicycle and pedestrian detection algorithms that differentiate between, as well as count, vehicles and more vulnerable road users. By implementing this technology, city traffic engineers can monitor intersection activity with better insights, allowing signal timing to be improved, and police or other emergency resources to be deployed more effectively.
“We are pleased to be able to work alongside the City of Minneapolis to support its initiative to make the city more bicycle, pedestrian and transit friendly,” said Todd Kreter, senior vice president and general manager, Roadway Sensors at Iteris. “Minneapolis is one of the most bike-friendly cities in the country and initiatives like the Minneapolis 2040 plan, which also complement its Vision Zero and smart city efforts, directly align with Iteris’ goals for safer and more efficient mobility.”
