ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--When asked how difficult it would be to re-enter the workforce if they took time off from their career, 77% of respondents said that it would be very or somewhat difficult to find a job if they took two years off.
Rose International, a leading staffing agency, today announced the findings of a contingent work* survey conducted by ENGINE, in which nearly half of respondents identify the top benefits of contingent work as a good way to re-enter the workforce (47%) and learn new skills (47%).
“It’s a misperception that taking time off from your career will make it challenging to get back in the workforce,” said Sue Bhatia, founder and chairwoman of Rose International. “Staffing agencies can match the skill sets an individual has mastered with specific opportunities, which makes contingent work an ideal way to re-enter the workforce.”
In addition, 45% of respondents see flexibility as a potential benefit of contingent work. A potential reason is that it enables workers to take time between projects and empowers them to decide what type of projects they want to accept.
When surveying each gender, men overall identify that the top benefits of being a contingent worker would be learning new skills (44%) and more flexibility (44%), and women identify learning new skills (51%) and a good way to re-enter the workforce (51%) as the most important benefits.
* Contingent work is defined as temporary or project-based work, with placement often occurring via a staffing company/agency.
