LCGCEurope Announces Ryan T. Kelly as the Recipient of the 2020 HTC Innovation Award

The award honors the innovative work of scientists in the field of hyphenated techniques.

CRANBURY, N.J.--()--LCGCEurope a leading multimedia platform of peer-reviewed technical information on the field of chromatography and separation science, has named Ryan T. Kelly, Ph.D., of Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, the winner of the 2020 HTC Innovation Award. The award was presented to him during the HTC-16 conference on 31 January 2020, Ghent, Belgium, at Het Pand, a cultural center at Ghent University.

“Kelly is truly an exceptional separation scientist. He has made outstanding contributions to the field of microcolumn separations, developing innovative hyphenated separation techniques,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president and CEO of MJH Life Sciences™, the parent company of LCGCEurope. “We were so honored to celebrate his achievements at the HTC-16 conference in front of his colleagues and peers, and we look forward to seeing him continue to excel in his career and research.”

In 2018, Kelly joined the faculty of Brigham Young University, where he is an associate professor in the department of chemistry and biochemistry. He also serves as a scientist in the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington. Kelly’s research is focused on the development of new technological solutions in separations, microfluidics and mass spectrometry for improved biochemical analyses. To this end, he has developed novel techniques based on 1D and 2D LC, hyphenated LC-ion mobility spectrometry-MS, and novel preconcentration/injection strategies for capillary LC-MS and electrophoresis-MS. These advances now enable >1000 proteins to be identified from single cells, which has strong potential to advance biomedical research.

Kelly is an author of more than 90 publications, with a combined 3,500 citations, and is an inventor of 11 issued and pending patents, several of which have been licensed and commercialized by companies including Bruker Corp., BaySpec Inc. and Ardara Technologies. His work has also been previously recognized with two R&D 100 awards from R&D Magazine, a Federal Laboratory Consortium Award for Excellence in Technology Transfer and the 2019 Georges Guiochon Faculty Fellowship Award from the HPLC Symposium.

The HTC Innovation Award was launched in 2018 and recognizes the achievements of a talented scientist who has made pioneering contributions to the field of separation science by introducing new methodologies, instrumentation or techniques in the field, with a strong focus on applicability. It is selected by the HTC-16 Scientific Committee and the HTC-16 Industry Board.
