Fordham Law School Launches LL.M. Program in Real Estate Law

Fordham is the Only Law School in New York City to Offer an LL.M. in Real Estate

NEW YORK--()--Fordham Law School announced today that it has launched a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Real Estate. Fordham is the only law school in New York City, and one of just a few across the country, to offer this kind of program. The LL.M. is open to students who have a first degree in law and it is intended for lawyers.

“Fordham’s robust real estate offerings and central location in the real estate capital of the world provides a unique opportunity for students to enhance their careers,” said Dean Matthew Diller.

“Students in our program will have access to our law school’s exceptional faculty and many real estate offerings and will be just a subway ride away from the world’s leading developers and law firms,” added Professor Nestor M. Davidson, Albert A. Walsh Chair in Real Estate, Land Use, and Property Law and Faculty Director of the Fordham Urban Law Center. “It’s an exceptional opportunity for lawyers seeking to build their real estate practice.”

The program provides students with a solid foundation in real estate law, including key areas such as real estate finance, residential and commercial leasing, land use, and affordable housing, as well as various areas such as environmental law, corporate law, tax, and related legal fields. The 24-credit program can be completed in as few as two semesters, although students can also choose to take the program on a part-time basis. It is intended for attorneys looking to deepen their understanding of real estate law or to open up new career opportunities in real estate.

“This is a tremendous chance for attorneys looking to bolster their experience and learn from great real estate attorneys working in the nation’s most dynamic market,” added Toni Jaeger-Fine, the assistant dean of international and non-J.D. programs at Fordham Law School.

Classes include Real Estate Transactions, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Drafting, Commercial Finance-Secured Transactions, Affordable Housing Law Practice & Policy, the Community Economic Development Clinic, Cooperatives and Condominiums, Environmental Law, Land Use Law, Land Use and Real Estate Development Skills, the Law of the City of New York, and many others. International students will also take courses to acclimate them with the U.S. legal system and practice.

Fordham is investing in a university-wide suite of real estate programs. For example, Fordham University recently established the Real Estate Institute in its School of Professional and Continuing Studies. In addition, Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business offers a concentration in alternative investments, with one track focused on real estate finance. In addition to tapping into Fordham Law School’s formidable network, LL.M. students will also be part of a network of professionals in real estate across disciplines.
