DALLAS--()--Hilltop Securities Inc. (HilltopSecurities) today announced that Tom Kozlik, head of municipal strategy and credit, was elected to Smith’s Research and Gradings (Smith’s) 2019 Municipal Analysts All-Star First Team in the generalist category.

This year’s ballot included over 400 municipal analysts from more than 100 firms nominated by Smith’s Blue Ribbon Ballot Committee of Portfolio Managers. The ballots were sent out to thousands of institutional investors who voted on the nominees. Kozlik and the rest of the All-Star Team accepted their awards earlier this month from Smith’s CEO at the program’s awards ceremony in New York City.

“As one of the nation’s full-service municipal investment banks, we’re proud to have Tom on our team and to see him recognized by his peers for his insight and advice,” said Brad Winges, president and CEO of HilltopSecurities. “In addition to Tom’s in-depth commentary and frequent contributions to major business media outlets, he is a valued asset to our public finance, fixed income and wealth management professionals and clients.”

Smith’s has been honoring the achievements of municipal professionals since 1992. The Municipal All-Star Program is the only program that prominently provides recognition in the municipal space, according to Smith’s. The program includes sell-side and buy-side firms, rating agencies, bond insurance companies and independent research analysts.

“I’m honored to be recognized for my body of work, but it’s especially rewarding to be recognized by my peers,” said Kozlik. “I appreciate everyone who nominated and voted for me, and I’m proud to be a part of this elite group of analysts. I’m also thankful for the support I have at HilltopSecurities, an industry-recognized leader and innovator in municipal finance.”

Kozlik publishes municipal commentary about activities and trends in the municipal bond market, mostly focused on state and local government and other municipal bond market sectors such as higher education, nonprofit, healthcare, transportation and housing. He frequently speaks at events and conferences across the county, and comments on matters related to public finance for print and broadcast media outlets such as Bloomberg, The Bond Buyer, Forbes, The New York Times, CNBC and more. Kozlik’s recent reports have covered topics such as public pension funding, cybersecurity, social impact investing and bondholder recoveries.
