Latino Community Foundation Releases Its 2020 Presidential Candidate Questionnaire

SAN FRANCISCO--()--In 2020, 32 million Latinos will be eligible to vote, making them the largest racial or ethnic group to be eligible to vote in a presidential election. Given the significance of this historic shift, the Latino Community Foundation (LCF) issued a Latino Presidential Candidate Questionnaire to engage all the candidates on the top issues Latino voters have prioritized. The candidates were asked to return the questionnaire by December 15, prior to the upcoming debate hosted by PBS NewsHour and Politico at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

“From housing to health care and jobs, Latinos deserve to know how the policy solutions the candidates offer will impact the lives of Latinos,” said Jacqueline Martinez Garcel, CEO of the Latino Community Foundation. As of today, only five of the candidates have responded to the eight questions on the questionnaire. To read the candidates responses click here.

LCF recently partnered with Latino Decisions to conduct the first statewide poll of registered Latino voters in California. The poll oversampled youth between 18 and 34 — the largest segment of eligible Latino voters. The poll revealed that 74 percent of Latinos voters in California intend to vote in the March 3 primary.

“Latinos are poised to shape the outcome of the primaries,” said Martinez Garcel. “And, the responsibility is on the candidates to engage this critical voting bloc. This questionnaire is an opportunity for all of them to share how they intend to address the top issues of concern to Latinos.”
