Intel® and Laplink® Provide Free Data Transfer for Windows® 7

Strategic partnership empowers Windows 7 uses with a timely solution to move to new PC ahead of end of support deadline

BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--Laplink® Software, Inc., the global leader in PC migration and creator of the only software of its kind recommended by Microsoft®, Intel® and all major PC manufacturers, today announced a free version of PCmover® for users transferring from a Windows® 7 PC to an Intel-based Windows 10 PC. This partnership comes just in time, as about 30% of Windows PCs are still running Windows 7, even with Microsoft’s Windows 7 End of Support less than two months away.

PCmover Express is free to use for personal, non-commercial use, and requires the source PC to be running Windows 7 and the destination PC to be Intel-based, running Windows 10 and not joined to a domain. Commercial users can purchase a license for PCmover Express for about $20. While PCmover Express does not transfer applications, that functionality is provided with PCmover Professional as an available upgrade.

“Intel’s research indicates that the data migration hassle is a key reason consumers delay buying a new PC. Our partnership with Laplink is all about eliminating that hassle. Together with Microsoft and Laplink, we want to make it as easy as possible for these consumers to move to Windows 10,” stated Jeffrey Rott, Business Development Director at Intel. “As Windows 7 end of support approaches, we wanted to make it as easy as possible for customers to migrate their personal files and settings from their Windows 7 PC to a new Windows 10 PC, and Laplink delivers a great solution with their PCmover Express software.”

“Laplink has literally been around since the DOS days when the first PC-to-PC migration took place, even before PC networking was invented and today our software continues to take the hassle out of moving everything from an old to a new PC. January 14, 2020, marks the end of support for Windows 7 and to keep using it will present a significant security risk as we get further from the deadline, so now is the time to move to Windows 10 and PCmover makes it easy,” said Thomas Koll, Laplink’s CEO. “We’ve been a long-standing Microsoft partner and worked closely with Intel since the beginning of the PC industry. The evolution of these relationships to support the transition to Windows 10 is a natural fit, both for us and our customers.”

Laplink offers several versions of PCmover to meet the needs of all types of consumers, small to medium organizations, managed IT service providers and large organizations. PCmover Enterprise enables IT departments of all sizes to centrally manage PC migrations saving them hours of labor and reducing post migration support issues. Already in use by thousands of major companies and organizations, PCmover continues to be the fastest growing enterprise migration solution.
