Ametros Creates Industry-Leading Regulatory Advisory Council

WILMINGTON, Mass.--()--Ametros, the leader in Medicare Set Aside professional administration, has established an expert Regulatory Advisory Council. Led by the company’s Senior Managing Director, Paul Sighinolfi, and chaired by its CFO, Nicole Sauk, the Council monitors and analyzes proposed changes to the Medicare Secondary Payer statute, workers’ compensation rules, and healthcare regulations.

Given the important interaction that the professional administration, workers’ compensation, and Medicare Secondary Payer industries have with healthcare, data security, banking, insurance, and other regulatory sectors, Ametros believes that there should be considerable oversight and compliance resources for our company, as well as the broader industry. The Council’s members are all subject matter experts, and Ametros will also look to continue to add additional experts that span the specialized areas of consumer protection, data security and privacy compliance, patient advocacy, and personal injury issues.

“Professional administration requires a deep understanding of the regulatory climate of a number of sensitive issues and the Council will continuously examine proposed changes to the statute and sub-regulatory guidance as well as provide meaningful interpretations of these through blogs, articles and webinars to help our clients, partners and members understand and maintain compliance with them, all while allowing Ametros to develop best practices in leading the professional administration industry,” Founder of the Council, Paul Sighinolfi, said.

Also serving on the Council are a number of nationally-recognized attorneys and compliance experts:

  • Attorney, Thomas Barker, who is based in Washington D.C., focuses on complex federal and state healthcare legal and regulatory matters; he brings special expertise in Medicare and Medicaid law and is one of the authors of www.medicaidandthelaw.com blog. His experience includes coverage, reimbursements and regulatory oversight. Barker previously served as acting General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and General Counsel of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Attorney, Colin Zick, is based in Boston. His practice concentrates on healthcare and compliance issues, especially those related to health insurers and health care providers. He helps his clients establish and maintain effective compliance programs and represents clients before state healthcare licensing and regulatory entities. In addition, Zick chairs his law firm’s Privacy & Data Security practice and works with technology companies on issues involving information privacy and security, including HIPAA and other federal and state data privacy and security laws. He regularly contributes to the firm’s www.securityprivacyandthelaw.com/ blog.
  • Bringing a patient advocacy perspective to the Council is attorney Mala Rafik, the managing partner of Rosenfeld & Rafik, PC, a New England law firm that represents clients seeking short- and long-term disability, life and long-term care benefits from private insurance carriers as well as patients denied access to healthcare. Rafik has taught Disability Law at New England Law and has served several professional organizations, including The Federal Bar Association’s Massachusetts Chapter of the Employment Law, Social Security & Disability Law Committee. She is the Vice-Chair of the Health and Disability Law committee within the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association and past chair of the Insurance Law Section of the American Association for Justice.

“These respected subject matter experts track trends and will help Ametros ensure our day-to-day practices are compliant in all areas while keeping our members, partners and clients informed on industry best-practices,” Sighinolfi noted.
