Better Sleep the Focus of New Collaboration Between American Heart Association and Airflow Sleep

Airflow Sleep teams with American Heart Association’s Healthy for Good – Be Well as a national sponsor

PHILADELPHIA--()--Airflow Sleep, a total sleep solutions and advocacy company that empowers people to improve sleep quality and behaviors, is joining the American Heart Association’s Healthy for Good movement to help Americans live healthier and sleep better. The announcement comes ahead of the American Heart Association’s annual Scientific Sessions in Philadelphia. Airflow Sleep will present its sleep solution suite at the Heart Theater (Booth 17) in the Science and Technology Exhibit Hall. The two organizations will collaborate on marquee events such as Heart Walks, educational initiatives, consumer research and workplace integrations to raise awareness of sleep’s impact on overall well-being.

The causal link between poor or irregular sleep, sleep-disordered breathing and cardiovascular health is well-documented. More than a third of Americans aren’t getting enough sleep each night. And, according to a scientific statement from the American Heart Association, adults who average fewer than seven hours of sleep every night are at greater risk of high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, heart attack, heart disease and stroke.

Sleep is an essential part of our well-being and impacts everything from eating habits, mood, memory, heart health and more,” said Eduardo Sanchez, M.D., M.P.H., FAAFP, chief medical officer for prevention and chief of the Center for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the American Heart Association. “It’s important for the American Heart Association to educate the public and health care providers about the importance and benefits of great sleep and encourage healthier sleep habits.”

Based in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Airflow Sleep combines proven medical techniques, sleep technology and unlimited personal advocacy and coaching to enhance sleep quality and correct bad habits that negatively affect sleep performance. The company takes “the sniffing position”—a clinically proven airway management technique used for intubation—out of the operating room and into consumers’ bedrooms. Its sleep solution suite—which includes a physician-designed, patented pillow for side and back sleepers, an advanced sleep tracking mat, a wrist device, a smartphone app and a team of personal sleep advocates—helps people analyze and improve sleep quality nightly and over time. Customers then work with a personal sleep advocate to discuss sleep-related challenges, establish and personalize goals, identify contextual factors that could inhibit great sleep—such as nightly routines or lighting—and ultimately improve sleep performance.

The most foundational factor to improving sleep performance is to improve breathing performance,” said Andy Fligor, CEO of Airflow Sleep. “In collaboration with the American Heart Association, our mission is to empower people with the solutions, education and support they need to take charge of their health through better sleep and healthier living.”
