Impact Award winner
Johnson County Government is located in northeast Kansas. The county serves a diverse and expanding population of more than 600,000 residents through five agencies and 34 county departments.
Johnson County’s security awareness program is based on the belief that cybersecurity is everyone’s responsibility. The entire organization participated in creative and smart education modules focused on phishing, malware, password security, safe web browsing and social engineering. The program earned an impressive 87% satisfaction rating from its learners.
The County also themes awareness and training content to seasonal security threats and trends, such as Data Privacy Day and National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Program managers also shifted the conversation about phishing email repeat offenders from employee reprimands to teachable moments — helping understand why learners click and adjusting processes to prevent similar behavior in the future.
Big Phish Award winner
Located in Seattle, Washington, Concord Technologies helps organizations in healthcare and other highly regulated industries automate their manual and document-intensive processes. Concord’s Cloud Fax service is responsible for the delivery of more than a billion health care documents each year.
Concord Technologies runs ongoing phishing simulation programs to an international team of employees and vendors. While introducing the training, a baseline campaign was run to establish phishing vulnerability across the organization. It was discovered that every employee — regardless of their role or level of technical expertise — was susceptible to phishing.
Since deploying the program, Concord Technologies has seen a significant increase in reported suspicious emails with PhishNotify, reduction in third-party risk through vendor education and a large reduction in security incidents — most notably, zero malware infections since starting the training.
Nominations received from around the world
Infosec received nominations from companies across the U.S. and internationally. In October, three finalists were chosen for each category. Today’s Inspire Awards ceremony was part of Infosec Inspire19, the company’s inaugural security awareness user conference designed for Infosec IQ clients. The conference was held at downtown Chicago’s Convene event venue from Nov. 4-7.
