CloudBees (Electric Cloud) Recognized for Completeness of Vision in Gartner’s 2019 Magic Quadrant for Application Release Orchestration (ARO)

For the fourth year in a row, CloudBees (Electric Cloud) named an ARO Magic Quadrant Leader. CloudBees believes CloudBees Flow provides a safe and reliable way to scale software release with unprecedented insight and control

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--CloudBees, the enterprise DevOps leader powering the continuous economy, today announced it has been named a Leader in Gartner’s 2019 Magic Quadrant for Application Release Orchestration for the fourth straight year. Gartner analysts evaluated companies based on their ability to execute and completeness of vision. CloudBees (Electric Cloud) was positioned the furthest to the right among seven vendors for its completeness of vision.

“We believe the placement of CloudBees as a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader for the fourth year in a row, positioned the furthest to the right for completeness of vision this year, validates our commitment to market-leading excellence in the software delivery space,” said Sacha Labourey, CEO of CloudBees. “CloudBees Flow provides a high level of control and visibility into complex enterprise pipelines, helping our customers eliminate release anxiety across the entire software delivery chain. Combined with our unmatched depth in Jenkins-based CI/CD, CloudBees provides a robust software delivery solution, from code to release. As customers continue to invest in DevOps, we are more focused than ever on helping them make software delivery a true competitive advantage.”

Scaling Release Activities

Gartner defines the Application Release Orchestration (ARO) category as having solutions that enable organizations to scale release activities across multiple diverse teams (e.g. DevOps), technologies, development methodologies (e.g. agile), delivery patterns (e.g. continuous), pipelines, processes and toolchains.

Gartner evaluated vendors on their Completeness of Vision based on the following categories for Market Understanding: deployment automation, pipeline and environment management, release orchestration, scalability and performance, and usability and access. Against these criteria, CloudBees was positioned the farthest right on the axis for Completeness of Vision.

ARO Market Being Disrupted

In the 2019 report, Gartner stated that “this research will be the final Magic Quadrant for ARO vendors.”

“As the ARO market is being heavily disrupted, Gartner believes application release is no longer the correct perspective for understanding and evaluating the vendor landscape. The delineation in functionality between various tools — ARO, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), serverless, platform as a service (PaaS), etc. — is becoming blurred as these markets converge. Therefore, we have decided to provide clients with crisp, actionable guidance for ARO solutions on a case-by-case basis in 2020 and beyond,” the report stated.1

“We agree that the ARO market is evolving rapidly as part of an overall move by customers to connect all aspects of their software delivery management practices,” Labourey said. “The need for organizations to scale release activities across multiple diverse teams, technologies, processes, stacks and toolchains hasn’t disappeared – it’s just grown bigger. We believe that this convergence must include process, tools and data, which is why we are firm believers in Software Delivery Management.”

Software Delivery Management

Current software delivery practices limit organizations’ ability to deliver software faster and more frequently to meet business needs. Organizations’ reliance on siloed tools used by different teams to perform largely manual tasks hampers their efforts to collaborate and share visibility across the delivery spectrum. CloudBees is responding to the challenge by building the cohesive system customers want, without forcing them to walk away from their existing tooling or processes. It will connect product stakeholders and development teams with the rest of the business, enabling full visibility and automation from idea to delivery.

CloudBees Flow is a key component of the company’s Software Delivery Management strategy – enabling teams to implement fast and adapt easily, with unprecedented insight and control of all types of releases, at any scale.
