Ametros’ Marques Torbert and United Airlines Joan Vincenz Offer Strategies for Settling Legacy Claims at NWCDC

LAS VEGAS--()--Settling the future medical component of legacy workers’ compensation claims can be nearly impossible for certain parties, including insurance carriers, third party administrators, and employers. Even when injured workers feel they are not aligned with or are not comfortable with the workers’ compensation system, some still hesitate to settle. This can result in claims remaining open for additional years, potentially to the detriment of both the payer and the injured worker.

Joan Vincenz, Managing Director, Workers’ Compensation and Managed Care for United Airlines, and Marques Torbert, CEO of Ametros, the leader in post-settlement medical administration, will explore the reasons why some claims fail to settle in a session at the 2019 National Workers’ Compensation and Disability Conference & Expo (NWCDC) in November.

Vincenz will share claims-closure challenges United Airlines has faced and solutions it has found, including introducing experts from a professional administration firm and utilizing other resources within the settlement process that have been beneficial. Torbert will provide strategies for uncovering and addressing injured workers’ real concerns along with the services and tools available to injured workers after settlement.

“Exhausting their settlement funds for medical care is a common fear. Injured workers are often surprised and become more confident with settling out future medical care when they learn that some professional administration firms provide medical networks and pharmacy discounts to help extend those dollars,” said Torbert. “While injured workers may want freedom to treat medically on their own, some injured workers are receiving support from the workers’ comp system that they depend on and do not want to lose that element,” he added. “They are used to having assistance in navigating the healthcare system and certainty that they will have medical care for life. Once they understand they can have ongoing care support, they can be more apt to settle.”

“Why Some Claims Just Won’t Close & What to Do About Them” starts at 3 p.m. on Nov. 7. NWCDC takes place November 6-8 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, and more information can be found at https://www.wcconference.com/
