The Leonardo Museum and Vivint Smart Home Launch Sensory-Friendly Mondays

Joint initiative creates a more inclusive museum experience for individuals of all abilities

SALT LAKE CITY--()--The Leonardo Museum of Creativity and Innovation and Vivint Smart Home today announced a joint initiative to offer a more inclusive museum experience for individuals of all abilities and their families. For the next year, The Leonardo Museum will host Sensory-Friendly Mondays on the first Monday of every month from 3-5 p.m. The Vivint-sponsored initiative includes specialized programming and curriculum for visitors with sensory processing sensitivities and other neurodevelopmental challenges.

“We want to make curiosity and innovation accessible to all by providing a monthly event for those with sensory processing differences to have a fun, enjoyable and interactive learning experience,” said Alexandra Hesse, executive director of The Leonardo Museum. “Making The Leonardo accessible to the community is at the core of our mission, and we’re incredibly grateful to Vivint Smart Home for helping make this kind of programming possible through their generous support.”

During each Sensory-Friendly Monday from 3-5 p.m., The Leonardo Museum will offer free admission for individuals with sensory processing sensitivities and their families. The museum will turn down the lights, reduce noise and offer sensory-specific programming developed with help from the DDI Vantage Early Head Start program. Sensory bags equipped with noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, maps, guides and verbal cue cards will be available for checkout at the admissions desk. A limited number of weighted lap pads will also be available upon request.

“Vivint is dedicated to helping families keep their loved ones safe and secure,” said Holly Mero-Bench, director of Vivint Gives Back, Vivint’s philanthropic foundation. “Children with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families are especially important to us. Our goal is to give them greater peace of mind both at home and in the community. We’re thrilled to team up with The Leonardo Museum to help make it a better experience for these individuals.”

Since 2008, Vivint and its employees have donated more than $18 million and 200,000 service hours to help people in need. While Vivint’s charitable endeavors benefit many people, its focus is on bringing families and technology together to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, particularly autism.

The Leonardo Museum is committed to making its facilities, exhibits, programs and resources inclusive for all audiences. Sensory-Friendly Mondays begin October 7, 2019 and continue the first Monday of every month through October 2020.
