BETA Healthcare Group CEO Tom Wander to Retire in May 2020

Longtime leader has served BETA members since 1993

ALAMO, Calif.--()--BETA Healthcare Group (BETA), the largest professional liability insurer of hospitals on the West Coast, announces that Tom Wander, its Chief Executive Officer, will retire in May 2020.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Tom for his 27 years of leadership at the helm of BETA Healthcare Group,” said Michael Moody, Chair of the BETA Council. “Tom has been instrumental in growing BETA into the respected and trusted organization it is today.”

During his tenure at BETA, Wander built “Program BETA,” established by seventeen district hospitals who banded together to form a hospital-governed risk sharing pool, into a mission-driven organization that has redefined risk management as an operational priority, and partners with its members to manage risk. Today, BETA provides flexible and comprehensive coverage solutions, risk management expertise, and compassionate claims service to 150 members in support of more than 575 hospital and healthcare facility locations.

“It’s been quite a journey,” said BETA CEO Tom Wander. “I’m grateful for having a hand in fostering a culture of collaboration where ideas, BETA talent and those we serve can thrive. I have been fortunate to have always worked with an outstanding team of caring and highly competent staff at all levels, and board members that understand their important roles in governing and supporting BETA Healthcare Group.”

The BETA Council, comprised of BETA members elected from among participating facilities and the governing body of BETA Healthcare Group, is in the process of conducting a CEO search and has retained the services of national search firm Stanton Chase.
