Labelmaster Hires Jay Johnson to Expand Consulting Services Team

Dangerous Goods Specialists Join Hazmat Solution Provider to Help Companies Establish Safe and Compliant Supply Chains

CHICAGO--()--Labelmaster, the leading provider of products, services and technology for the safe and compliant transport of dangerous goods (DG) and hazardous materials (hazmat), today announced the appointment of Jay Johnson as senior manager of Labelmaster Services. Johnson will report to Labelmaster Vice President of Consulting Pia Jala, who will now lead the consulting services team.

“Labelmaster continues to expand its consulting services team by adding dangerous goods industry veterans with applied expertise, including forming a strategic partnership with Geoff Leach from The Dangerous Goods Office Limited earlier this year,” said Jala. “Adding a globally recognized expert in dangerous goods logistics and packaging such as Jay to an already deep consulting services team will enable Labelmaster to better help its customers navigate and comply with the complex, ever-changing regulations that govern the transport of dangerous goods.”

With more than 29 years of experience in dangerous goods shipping and compliance, Johnson specializes in packaging and logistics solutions for the chemical and biotech industries. He comes to Labelmaster from Inmark Packaging, where he served as the regulatory compliance manager and assisted companies with all dangerous goods compliance activities, including the development of customized training programs and packaging solutions for chemical, industrial and pharmaceutical industries.

Prior to Inmark, he served as director of worldwide clinical trials for QuickSTAT, director of regulatory compliance for Partners In Compliance, Inc. and supervisor for USCO Distribution Services, Inc. Johnson is a member of the Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles (COSTHA), a board member of the Dangerous Goods Trainers Association, Inc. (DGTA) and past chairman of the Dangerous Goods Advisory Council (DGAC). He is also a Dangerous Good Safety Advisor (DGSA) in Europe and an approved dangerous goods instructor by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Overcoming Gaps in Today’s Hazmat Supply Chain

The evolution of ecommerce and the global supply chain has made moving dangerous goods in a safe and compliant manner more important than ever. Yet, several key gaps exist within organizations’ processes and infrastructure that make maintaining a reliable hazmat supply chain difficult. In fact, a recent Labelmaster global survey found that dangerous goods professionals find compliance challenging and time-consuming, and need additional resources in order to address changing supply chain requirements and support future operational needs.

Johnson said, “The challenges associated with dangerous goods shipping are compounded by the fact that many organizations lack the resources and infrastructure necessary to meet evolving supply chain needs and expanding regulations. I am thrilled to join an industry leader such as Labelmaster to help companies shipping dangerous goods identify process gaps that put their global supply chain at risk, and establish safe and compliant practices to handle and ship hazmat in a compliant and efficient manner.”
