NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MetroPlus Health Plan today announced the appointment of Amanda Parsons, M.D., as the health plan’s new Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO). Dr. Parson’s assumed her new position on September 3.
“I am pleased to announce Dr. Parson’s appointment as Deputy Chief Medical Officer,” said Talya Schwartz, M.D., MetroPlus President and Chief Executive Officer. “We believe that she is supremely qualified to support Dr. Sanjiv S. Shah, who was appointed Chief Medical Officer last month, in providing the leadership we need to continue ensuring our members receive the excellent health services they deserve, and that they continue to rank us among the top plans in quality and patient satisfaction.”
“It is a privilege to assume this role and, in close collaboration with doctors Schwartz and Shah, as well as NYC Health + Hospitals, help provide access to medical care to our members as well as provide the wrap around services they need to stay their healthiest,” said Dr. Amanda Parsons. “I am passionate about improving health and health care quality, correctional health and reducing disparities for vulnerable populations, and committed to supporting the plan’s mission of inclusive, person-centered, quality-driven care.”
Amanda Parsons amassed extensive experience in physician leadership, population health management and health strategies, as well as management consulting, before joining MetroPlus as DCMO, where she now oversees disease and care management. She was formerly Vice President of Community & Population Health at Montefiore Health System where she directed community interventions aimed at improving health and wellness of patients, staff, and communities. She led Montefiore’s Bronx DSRIP activities and managed the design and implementation of programs including chronic disease pathways, transitions of care planning and social determinants of health screening/intervention. Prior to that, she was Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Health Care Access and Improvement at the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) where she was responsible for the Primary Care Information Project, Correctional Health Services, Primary Care Access and Planning, as well as IT, Finance, Admin and Legal bureaus.
