ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Securian Financial’s headquarters building at 400 Robert Street North in downtown St. Paul is the first in Minnesota to be certified by Fitwel as a building that supports healthier lifestyles.
Developed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and run by the Center for Active Design, the Fitwel certification recognizes work communities, inside and outside the building, that support employees’ physical, mental and social health. Securian Financial earned the certification earlier this summer after a robust examination of the building, employee resources and the company’s participation in its downtown neighborhood.
“With the largest private sector workforce in downtown St. Paul, it’s important to us that we also have one of the healthiest workplaces,” said Julio Fesser, Securian Financial’s vice president of facilities services. “We’ve made many recent investments in our spaces, particularly in the 400 Building, including a new state-of-the art cafeteria with expanded healthy offerings, fully adjustable sit-to-stand desks, and collaboration spaces and expanded wireless coverage to give our employees multiple options for where to work—which further promotes at-work mobility.”
Securian Financial’s headquarters is on bike and bus lines, and employees have quick access to nearby parks. Even in winter, it is easy for employees to be active, thanks to downtown St. Paul’s skyways.
“These are all elements that demonstrate our commitment to a healthy, vibrant work environment,” said Fesser. “We appreciate our efforts being recognized by Fitwel and the Center for Active Design.”
The Fitwel certification is valid for three years. Securian Financial is also working on completing the certification process for its other headquarters building, located at 401 Robert Street North, for 2020.
