CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Physicians Practice, a leader in the supply of timely expertise and practical advice to help physicians build successful, thriving practices, released the results of its 2019 Staff Salary Survey.
“Within the field of medicine, it is crucial to ensure that professionals are being compensated within the national benchmarks of the industry,” said Michael J. Hennessey Jr., president of MJH Life Sciences™. “We are excited to present the results from the 11th annual Physicians Practice staff salary survey.”
The respondents’ top three practice specialties were family medicine (40%), internal medicine (20%) and pediatrics (15%). Among the staff members at the respondents’ practices, the highest-earning percentile of each group makes the following annual salary:
- 33% of non-physician providers earn over $100,000.
- 25% of nurses earn $40,001-$50,000.
- 51% of medical assistants earn $30,001-$40,000.
- 46% of desk staff workers earn $30,001-$40,000.
- 35% of billers/coders earn $30,001-$40,000.
The survey results indicate that 66% of respondents gave raises to practice employees within the past 2 years. Consequently, 45% of participants plan to give merit or performance-based raises this year. For those not planning to give raises, 40% said the main reason why is a decrease in reimbursement by payers and patients.
Respondents reported that staffing levels stayed the same for 52% of physicians while non-physician providers increased by 37%.
Specialties represented in the survey include family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB-GYN, cardiology, psychiatry, dermatology, anesthesiology, urology and emergency medicine.
