Redox Announces Free Support for USCDI on FHIR

As more options emerge, Redox continues to be the one-stop-shop for interoperability

MADISON, Wis.--()--Redox, the leading cloud interoperability platform, announced today that the company has expanded further support for open standards including U.S. Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) on the FHIR standard. Accessing patient data through this functionality will be free for Redox customers. As electronic health record (EHR) vendors make various FHIR resources available, Redox ensures a consistent developer experience by abstracting away variability found across vendors and health system implementations.

The USCDI is a set of data elements specified by the Office of the National Coordinator for nationwide, interoperable health information exchange. The goal is that all EHR systems will eventually, make this data available. As each EHR vendor chooses how they will implement this, Redox is committing to consolidate each into a single, consistent API experience for developers and enabling it for free for developers using other Redox functionality.

Redox has emerged as the leading interoperability platform for healthcare software developers in sharing data with the healthcare delivery organizations they work with. More than 500 health care delivery organizations and 240 independent software vendors use Redox to exchange and integrate healthcare data across 40 EHR vendors. About seven million messages per day are standardized to a common JSON specification and single API endpoint creating a unified developer experience across an increasingly heterogeneous interoperability landscape.

The new functionality enables developers to access data without needing to build a SMART on FHIR app. Here are benefits of using Redox:

  • Bundled queries using Redox USCDI on FHIR - Query a single Redox API for patient data. Redox will make the numerous FHIR queries required to get the USCDI-defined data and harmonize results into a single and consistent JSON payload response.
  • Authorization Storage with the Redox SMART Authorizer - Store and organize authorization tokens for any EHR vendor in a single location with the Redox SMART Authorizer. Redox will handle refresh tokens and continued authentication on all sources.
  • Polling via Redox - When applications require real-time data, Redox can poll an API at a configurable interval to check for new information, handle duplicates and package a consistent response with only new, timely, patient data.

“It’s encouraging to see EHR vendors respond to market needs, support standards and open up their systems. These moves pave the way for a second generation of software to digitize the healthcare experience while the EHR becomes the backbone of our healthcare delivery system,” says Niko Skievaski, co-founder and president of Redox. “While patient data is now more easily accessible, there is still work to be done to bring it all together over a consistent and shared network designed for the new generation of application developers who will have a big role in building the future of digital health. We’re excited to be in a position to offer this additional functionality for free as part of our platform.”
