AscellaHealth Recognizes World Hepatitis Day July 28, Enables Health Plans and Employers to Lower Cost, Improve Outcomes with Specialty Pharmacy Solutions

World Hepatitis Day brings the world together to raise awareness of the global burden of viral hepatitis

BERWYN, Pa.--()--AscellaHealth, a national Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) serving commercial, Medicare and Medicaid segments, joins individuals and organizations around the world in recognition of World Hepatitis Day (WHD), July 28, 2019, and points to the estimated 2.4 million people in the United States living with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. To help health plans, employer groups and unions overcome the complexity and collaboration needed for effective management of this disease, AscellaHealth’s Clinical and Educational Programs educate members on their prescribed therapy at the outset, assisting with high deductible/co-insurance costs by utilizing financial assistance programs and partnering with physicians and pharmacist throughout the member’s course of treatment.

“AscellaHealth’s high-touch model addresses the undeniable burden of drug costs associated with HCV treatment, and includes clinical interventions, adherence counseling, psychosocial assessment, integrated nursing staff, refill reminders and delivery coordination to optimize member care,” says Dea Belazi, president and CEO, AscellaHealth. “This level of treatment is critical, given that the first approved HCV drug, sofosbuvir, cost $1,000 per pill and all subsequent sofosbuvir-inclusive regimens have been higher, with the typical drug cost for a standard 12 weeks of ledipasvir-sofosbuvir costing $94,500.”

AscellaHealth’s program is available on a standalone basis, or as part of a full-service pharmacy benefit management option that includes specialty drug management, formulary management services/rebates, competitive pricing and innovative discounting, drug utilization review, case management services/therapy management, clinical review/prior authorization, pharmacy and therapeutic management committee, flexible claims adjudication system, drug information and news reporting.

Belazi adds. “This July 28, and throughout the year, we plan to spread the word about the impact of HCV as we continue to create custom benefit designs that help stakeholders maximize their benefit plans and reduce the high costs of managing chronic diseases among members.”
