DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The "Japan Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) Market: Industry Trends, Share, Size, Growth, Opportunity and Forecast 2019-2024" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.
The Japan cross laminated timber (CLT) market is currently exhibiting a robust growth. Over the past few years, Japan has been witnessing a shift from concrete construction materials to sustainable alternatives like cross laminated timber. This can be attributed to the rising environmental concerns coupled with advantageous properties of cross laminated timber which include lightweight, strength, durability, stability, design variety, enhanced insulation and fire resistance. Cross-laminated timber has applications as a structural material for a range of components such as walls, floors and ceilings. CLT utilises a higher amount of timber compared to conventional Japanese homes that are constructed with pillars. The widespread applications of CLT appear to be promising for boosting lumber demand, as CLT can be used even in public and commercial structures that are four stories or higher - structures that were earlier considered difficult to be built with timber.
The government in Japan is also playing an important role in driving the demand of CLT in the country. In 2010, the Promotion of Use of Wood in Public Buildings Act was passed by the Japanese government. This act requires all government buildings up to three stories high to be constructed with wood, or to utilize wood. The Forest Agency in the country is also developing a road map in utilising CLT, a follow on to the Promotion for the Use of Wood in Public Buildings Act. The Agency is providing subsidies to drive the establishment of CLT facilities with a target of increasing the country's CLT production capacity that can supply to both the domestic and international markets. Moreover, as Japan is situated, on the joint of four different plates, it is vulnerable to earthquakes. Cross laminated timber structures have been found to be more resilient to earthquakes compared to many other types of building materials. This has also resulted in an increasing demand for cross laminated timber in the country.
